Configuration Management

Configuration Management is a balance of building the system around the utility and delivering internal process improvements to maximize system effectiveness and long-term sustainability. To deliver the best possible configuration, one must have a complete understanding of industry best practices along with the processes / value drivers of the utility.

Pairing WCG’s experience with implementation projects and our hands-on work approach, we are able to quickly learn the utility’s needs and translate technical system processes, data tables, interfaces, and preference codes into meaningful configuration options and solutions.

From the start, WCG consultants will attend all Discovery sessions to provide feedback, direction, and continued oversight of the selected vendor’s resources. Our consultants will continue acting as liaisons between the vendor resources and the client project team to ensure that there is always a complete understanding of process requirements and system capabilities.

Testing Leadership

The WCG consultant will support your core testing team through all three phases of testing: Functional Testing, Integrated Testing, and User Acceptance Testing.

Functional Testing will focus on testing core system functionality. At this stage, all system configuration will be taking place and the WCG consultant will be working closely with the vendor consultants to intertwine your organization’s specific requirements. All issues, configuration requests, system defects, and bugs will be entered into the issue tracking tool and constantly updated by the WCG consultant.

Integrated Testing will focus on testing the client-specific process flows. The WCG consultant will support the client team in identifying the unique processes as well as the one-off variances discovered and documented throughout functional testing. During this stage, the focus will be on solidifying the core team’s system and process knowledge while also encouraging a transfer of ownership as we approach the training phase. WCG will support the identified client-side testing lead to help in directing, organizing, and tracking all testing efforts. Integrated testing will not be deemed complete until all process flows are successfully tested and results match the client’s expectations.

User Acceptance Testing will focus on mirroring day-to-day operations and will test real life processes from beginning to end. WCG will build the UAT testing plan, organize the processes and batches to be run, and lead in the comparative analysis to ensure that the test system results match the current system results.

End-User Training

Even a perfectly-designed system is only as effective as the end-users’ capabilities and confidence-level. WCG ensures that the utility employees achieve their needed level of functional capability and approach the cut-over with confidence by ensuring that on-going formal and informal training is provided.

We begin the training process with small group introductions to the system. At this point, the employees will become familiar with basic system navigation and will be given relevant comparisons to the legacy system to help lessen the learning curve.

As the project approaches functional group training, WCG will partner with the client-side training lead to spearhead the knowledge transfer efforts by developing customized training materials and leading effective training sessions for all functions. The WCG consultants will keep a fluid list of critical processes that will require specific documentation. These critical process documents are tied to the Integrated Testing scenarios as seen previously.
